Houston, Texas

Houston is the fourth Largest city in the states, although you would have probably already guessed that by now. Founded in 1836, this city has quite a bit of history. Being named after the then-President of the Republic of Texas, Sam Houston shows the importance of this city. Weather in the region is warm, with mild winters. Snowfall is extremely rare, making it a hotspot of travel for the winter months for those looking to escape the frozen clutches of winter. Economically, Houston is a silverback Gorilla. With a GP of $385 Billion, only 21 countries, excluding the United States have one higher. This is to say that the energy industry here is huge.

Being such a large metropolitan complex the arts are huge. Houston has the second largest concentration of theater seats in a downtown area. This goes to show how serious about the arts this area is. Nine performing arts groups as well as six performance halls encompass the arts district in this historic town. In addition to the arts district, the museums attract over seven million visitors each year. Destinations such as the Museum of Fine Arts, the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston and the Houston Zoo encompass just a few of the many fine destinations that are offered here.

One very unique aspect of Houston is that it has the third tallest skyline in the United States, that also makes it one of the tenth tallest skylines in the world. Ingeniously, architects designed a system of skywalks and tunnels that stretches seven miles to connect buildings. This enables pedestrians to avoid the rain as well as summer heat while making their way throughout downtown. If you’d like to spend some time outside, catching an Astros game at Minute Maid Park or watching the Texans at Reliant Stadium is a great way to enjoy an afternoon.
